Chartres and its region - Chartres Cathedral

Our gite is located in the heart of a region popular with tourists. 45 minutes away from the Palace of Versailles, one hour away from the Eiffel Tower and Euro Disney and 1 hour 30 minutes away from the castles of the Loire, you could combine a holiday in the country with visits to the high spots of world tourism.

Near Chartres whose cathedral Notre-Dame de Chartres, a masterpiece registered as world heritage by UNESCO, is a jewel of the 12 and 13 centuries. Going through the old town with its quaint old streets you can reach the banks of the Eure where some ancient bridges, wash houses and water mills survive.

In addition to images of large stretches of corn, the central region has a wide variety of landscape and natural features: forests, ponds, limestone outcrops, moors and the Loire with its sand banks and forests. The territory of the central region provides a habitat for three regional nature parks including the Perche just nearby.

Chartres whose cathedral Notre-Dame de Chartres, a masterpiece registered as world heritage by UNESCO, is a jewel of the 12 and 13 centuries. A few steps away from this monument with famous stained glass, the International Centre of Stained Glass Windows perpetuates this art via work experience placements and exhibitions. Going through the old town with its quaint old streets you can reach the banks of the Eure, where some ancient bridges, wash houses and water mills survive. In the spring Chartres lights up and leads you to discover its heritage by a playful and poetic journey. Fourteen of its monuments are set to music and light.

Maintenon golf course (10 minutes away from the gite)

Weaving its way through the castle park between the artificial lakes and the imposing aqueduct of Vauban, this route offers you a golf setting of high quality. With almost 2,700 km of sign-posted paths, ramblers, horse riders, mountain bikers or push-bike enthusiasts will find in the Eure-et-Loir a complete range of family or more sports-like treks!

Hot air balloon (10 minutes from the gite)

Located 10 minutes away from our gite, a trip in a balloon is an opportunity to discover the landscapes and the riches of this region beloved by impressionists and celebrated by La Fontaine. The valley of the Eure reveals its mills, the country of CHARTRES, its cathedral, MAINTENON, its famous Château and its aqueduct.

Maintenon Castle (10 minutes from the gite)

Maintenon Castle, a magnificent residence from the Renaissance, was built at the beginning of the 16 century on the site of an ancient fortified castle of which only the square Gate remains. But it was Françoise of Aubigne, the future Madame de Maintenon who completed the main improvement work before becoming the mistress, then the secret wife of Louis XIV.

As a royal residence, this monument is counted among the most remarkable in France and the world as much for its beauty as for the events which took place there. The King and the court resided there permanently from the 6 May 1682 to the 6 October 1789 apart from a few years over the Regency period. It is located in the south-west of Paris in the city of Versailles, France. This castle has become a symbol of the height of French royalty. The grandeur of the rooms was supposed to be representative of the glory of the successive kings.
